TRIALS RULES OF SIGHTHOUNDS

I. Tests Rules  of the hunting qualities of sighthounds at hunting for wild animal.

  1. Tests of sighthounds are carried out for hunting for an adult European (brown) hare (Lepus europaeus), an adult mountain hare (Lepus timidus) and the adult fox. If the European (brown) hare does not live in the given area, then tests are carried out for an adult tolai hare (Lepus tolai).

      Tests of sighthounds are forbidden to be carried out for hunting for a corsac fox.

  2. Tests are carried out mainly in the period between October 1 and December 1, depending on local conditions.

 Tests are not carried out in a fog, on the rain soaked ground, on snow cover above 15-18 cm, on an ice crust, on a glaze ice and frozen ground, at temperature  of air above +15 degrees and below -10 degrees on Celsius, on rough layers of an arable land, in fields where is mowing sunflowers, corn and alfalfa, in overgrown with bushes or reeds ravines.

  3.  Every dog receives the individual appraisal when he tested hunting qualities on field tests. Two or three dogs ( brace or pack) those have one owner may receive also and group appraisal under the condition that person leads them on one rope ("svora")

  4.  Presented at trial sighthounds are divided into groups for simultaneous testing. Groups will consist of two or three dogs. Dogs of group can have one or different owners. Commission of judges determines quantity of groups

      Comment. The dog can be tested alone (outside of group) if the owner wants it, and also there is time for this purpose and the presence of wild animals allows it.

  5. Usually dogs have one work. Commission of judges has the right to give the second opportunity under condition of impossibility to make an appraisal of the done work.

  6. The sequence of participation of groups are being established by a lot. After that the first groups of leaders with under test dogs are being situated on a field in a line. The distance between groups is from 25 to 60 meters along front line. Other participants of trials go behind the basic line on distance of 120-150 meters. When any group of the basic line had work, the next number group takes this place. Only Commission of judges guides movement of a line of leaders.

II. Obligations of leading

  1. Leaders are obliged to follow directions of members of Commission of judges without discussion and to observe the following rules:
  • Dogs should have collars and durable leash;
  • If sighthounds of one of groups are let off and work with animal, all other groups are obliged to stop. Leaders should hold well and calm the dogs, expecting directions of the judge;
  • Owners or leaders of dogs going after an animal should go at once to them. Owners should immediately take the dogs on leash after the termination of persecution to not impede other works;
  • Chairman of Commission of judges determines further start and direction of movement of groups;
  • Leaders are obliged to let off sighthounds for a chase of an animal if the animal has risen to one's feet on distance from 25 to 100 meters from group. If the animal has risen on distance farther 100 meters, leaders let off the dogs at will;
  • It is forbidden to let off sighthounds for a chase of young animal and the animal which has risen to one's feet closer of 25 meters from group

III. Duties of members of Commission of judges

  1. Chairman of Commission of judges reminds to participants of a duty of leaders after drawing up of groups and sortition. After that he permits movement of participants and goes behind of the basic line, in immediate proximity from them. Members of Commission of judges move together with the basic line so that the one judge at least could watch work in case of left off for a chase dogs of any group.

  2. At an appraisal Judges should take into account a condition in which work of dogs took place.

     Arduous conditions are: high stubble, tall weeds, forest plantations, arable land. Simple conditions are: soft ground, virgin soil, hayfield, winter crops, stubble-field, fallow.

IV. 1. Maximum quantity of the points awarded for the hunting qualities of sighthounds, revealed on trials is adduced in table:

  2. The diploma for the hunting qualities of sighthounds is awarded at presence of the following minimal points for the appreciated work:

      Comment. The diploma is not awarded to a dog if it tears the caught animal

V. Terms of the award of a diploma for work for catching an European hare, a mountain hare and a tolai hare.

  1. Capture of a hare by group in which the dog works is not obligatory for award of the diploma of III degree. The diploma is awarded to a dog sudden and radical changing a trajectory of movement ("ugonka") of an animal. The diploma is not awarded if the animal changes a trajectory of movement without influence of a dog.

  2. Capture of a hare is obligatory for a dog or its group for award of the diploma of II degree of the individual estimate. mate. The dog revealing the supreme speed and assuring capture of an animal, receives the maximum estimate..

     However thus other dogs can remain and without diplomas, including which has caught a hare from under another's works.

  3. Capture of a hare is obligatory for award of diploma I of a degree for a tested dog.

  4. Capture of a hare is obligatory for award of the diploma of any degree for the group category.

VI. Terms of the award of a diploma for work for catching a fox.

  1. Diploma of I degree is awarded only under the individual category at work in heavy conditions (the animal has risen to one's feet on distance not closer 300 meters on a plowed land, in a tall weeds, etc.) and only to that dog who has caught the fox. In the group category diploma of I degree is not awarded.

     Diplomas of II and III degrees in "the individual category" are awarded depending on difficulty of work, but under condition of obligatory capture of a fox.

VII. Dogs are not estimated and debarred from tests in the following cases:

  1. Dogs are letting go for the animal which has risen to one's feet opposite neighbour group.

  2. Dogs are letting go for the young animal or from distance 25 meters are closer.

  3. The dog has refused to pursue an animal whom it sees and has returned, having race less than 200 meters

  4. The leader advisedly has not let go its dogs on the animal which has risen within the limits of distance prescribed for trials.

  5. Sighthounds attacking domestic animals.
